Travelling-holiday

Are you travelling with your dog or cat?

If you take your dog or cat on holiday, then it’s useful to make a checklist of things that you should not forget. In this way, your pet’s suitcase is also packed well! To help you, we have listed some important things for you.

1)      When you go abroad, it is mandatory that your pets have a passport, a microchip and a vaccination against rabies. The vaccination must be at least three weeks old prior to departure. Other rules may apply for travelling outside Europe. Your vet can tell you more about that, so don’t hesitate to ask him or her your questions.

2)      When you go on vacation, it’s also important to protect your pets against fleas, ticks and tick-borne diseases as for example Lyme disease. You can choose from our wide selection of anti-flea and anti-tick products. In Southern Europe, you and your pet can also be confronted with sand flies and mosquitoes that cause heartworm. To prevent this, you can protect your dog with the Scalibor Protector Band or Advantix pipettes. In addition we also have deworm products for dogs and cats in our assortment, that work against heart worms (and other worm species).

3)      Do also not forget to protect yourself at your holiday. New in our assortment are the products of Care Plus. These products are intended for people and protect you from biting insects and ticks. The products are safe and effective, suitable for all destinations and therefore ideal to take with you on holiday!

4)      It’s possible that your dog or cat does not like the (car) journey as much as you do. To relieve stress during the trip, you can use soothing/calming products, such as Zylkène, Telizen or Adaptil. In addition, your pet may experience motion sickness. Motion sickness occurs when the vestibular system gets disturbed while driving. This reflects in symptoms like nausea, salivation and vomiting. Motion sickness can be counteracted with Cerenia tablets (Note: prescription is required for Cerenia). During a long journey by car it’s also important to provide your pet with enough water and occasionally stop for a break to stretch both your and your dog’s legs. A car can get hot very soon, so do not leave your pet alone in the car, because overheating is lurking.

5)      Finally, in the unlikely event that your pet may injure himself or experiences diarrhoea during the holiday, remember to take also some first aid items for your pet with you.

We wish you a happy holiday!
