Milbenin
Milbenin is a powerful broad-spectrum deworming treatment for dogs. The tablets are effective against the most common internal parasites and are generally well accepted thanks to their palatability. Regular deworming of your dog or puppy is very important for their health and also for your own safety, as some types of worms can also infect humans.
For which dogs is Milbenin suitable?
Milbenin is available in two variants:
- Milbenin Small Dog and Puppy – suitable for dogs from 1 kg
- Milbenin Large Dog – for dogs from 5 kg
These variants are tailored to the body weight of your dog, allowing for accurate dosing. Milbenin can be given to puppies as young as 2 weeks old (with a minimum weight of 1 kg).
Active ingredients of Milbenin
Milbenin contains the same active ingredients as some other well-known deworming treatments: Milbemycin oxime and Praziquantel. This combination combats various types of worm infections:
- Milbemycin oxime is effective against roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and also helps prevent heartworm.
- Praziquantel is effective against tapeworms, including the fox tapeworm, which is dangerous to humans.
Why is deworming important?
Worms often cause no visible symptoms, but they can still lead to serious health problems, such as:
- Diarrhea or vomiting
- Reduced condition
- Weight loss or stunted growth in puppies
- Coughing (in case of lung- or heartworm)
Some worms can also infect humans. Regular deworming of dogs is therefore essential – for the health of your dog and yourself.
Administration of Milbenin
The palatable Milbenin tablets can be administered orally, with or immediately after food. Thanks to their good taste, they are usually eaten without problems.

How often should you deworm your dog?
The frequency of deworming depends on your dog’s living conditions. The ESCCAP (European Scientific Counsel Companion Animal Parasites) generally advises:
- Adult dogs that go outside: deworm at least four times a year
- Dogs that hunt, eat raw meat, or travel/live in areas where heartworm occurs: more frequent/monthly deworming may be necessary
- Puppies: deworm at 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks of age, then monthly until 6 months old
For personal deworming advice, it is best to consult your veterinarian.
Additional support for worm infections
A worm infection can disrupt your dog’s gut flora. In that case, probiotics such as Protexin Pro-Kolin Advanced or Purina Pro Plan FortiFlora can help support the gastrointestinal tract. Is your dog suffering from loose stools? Then psyllium fibers (as found in Iso-Gel) can contribute to better stool consistency.
Note: some tapeworms are transmitted via fleas in dogs. Therefore, it is important to also use a good flea treatment at the same time, such as Frontpro or Bolfo Gold.
