Frontline Cat
Frontline's Spot On products protect your cat against fleas, ticks, and biting lice. Frontline Cat Spot On and Frontline Combo Cat and Kitten Spot On are easy to apply to your cat’s skin using a pipette. Spot On products from Frontline and Frontline Combo may be used from 8 weeks of age and 1 kg body weight. This also applies to Frontline Combo Kitten. Additionally, Frontline Combo can be used on ferrets from 6 months of age.
The difference between Frontline Cat Spot On and Frontline Combo Cat and Kitten Spot On is that Frontline Combo products contain a combination of active ingredients (fipronil and S-methoprene), which also inhibit the development of flea eggs and larvae for 6 weeks. Frontline Cat only contains fipronil and kills only the adult fleas on the cat itself. After treatment with Frontline, your cat is protected for up to 5 weeks against fleas and up to 4 weeks against ticks.
For adult cats, using Frontline Spray is less recommended; correct dosage requires a large amount of product to be distributed through the coat. This often causes a lot of stress and increases the risk of the product being licked off. Using a Spot On, collar, or tablet is therefore preferred for adult cats.
Frontline for young kittens
If you have a kitten younger than 8 weeks or lighter than 1 kg with fleas, then Frontline Spray is the right product. Use the 100ml variant for precise dosing. The spray should be applied over the entire coat. Since this often causes a lot of stress in cats, a better method is to spray the required amount into a gloved hand and then massage it into the coat. A correct dosage (so spraying enough) is of course important for good effectiveness. Frontline Spray is the only product that can be used on kittens lighter than 500g. Frontline Spray is effective for up to 4 weeks against ticks and 5 weeks to a maximum of 3 months against fleas. Be sure to read up on flea control in kittens.
Frontline Dog
Frontline also offers a range of products for dogs.
Frontline Dog Spot On protects dogs from 8 weeks of age and 2 kg body weight against adult fleas, ticks, and biting lice. The duration of effect against fleas is 5 weeks to a maximum of 3 months. The product protects against ticks for up to 4 weeks.
Frontline Combo Dog works for 8 weeks against adult fleas and also targets eggs and larvae for 8 weeks due to the addition of S-methoprene. The effect against ticks lasts up to 4 weeks. Frontline Combo, including the puppy variant, is also suitable for use on dogs from 8 weeks of age and 2 kg body weight.
Frontline for dogs is available in different sizes: S (<10 kg), M (10–20 kg), L (20–40 kg), and XL (>40 kg), 3 or 6 pipettes. Frontline Combo Puppy is the same product as Frontline Combo S.
Frontline for puppies or small dogs
If your puppy is younger than 8 weeks and/or lighter than 2 kg, or if you have an adult dog lighter than 2 kg, the use of Frontline Spot On is not possible. Fortunately, there is an alternative that is even suitable for the very smallest. Frontline Spray can be used for the treatment of fleas and ticks in puppies from 2 days old! The spray should be applied against the direction of hair growth over the entire coat or distributed with a glove. A correct dosage (so spraying enough) is of course important for good effectiveness.
Depending on the size of your puppy or dog, you can choose the 100 or 250 ml variant. Note: the amount per pump of both products is not the same! The 100ml variant is especially suitable for very small animals. For larger dogs, Frontline Spot On is more practical than Frontline Spray. See below under ‘*’ for a dosage example.
Frontline Spray is effective for up to 4 weeks against ticks and from 5 weeks to a maximum of 3 months against fleas.
Proper dosing of Frontline Spray
For animals with short hair, the following dosage in ml per kg of body weight applies:

* For animals up to 5 kg with short hair: 100 ml bottle: 8 x pumps per kg or 1 x pump per 125 grams, 250 ml bottle: 1 x pump per 375 grams.
** For a dog weighing 10 kg with short hair, requiring 3 x 10 = 30 ml: 60 x pumps with the 100 ml bottle and 20 x pumps with the 250 ml bottle.
Tips for keeping your cat and dog free of fleas and ticks
Fleas can be extremely persistent, and controlling a flea infestation requires a thorough approach. Choosing the right product is step 1. Additionally:
Do not bathe your cat or dog in the two days before or after treatment with Frontline. Bathing removes the fat layer, preventing the product from working properly.
If your pet has fleas, you must treat not only your dog(s) and/or cat(s) but also your home. Only 5% of the fleas are on your pet—the rest are in the environment. By treating both your pet and your home simultaneously, the infestation will be brought under control more quickly. Vacuum thoroughly, focusing on resting places (where eggs fall off your pet) and cracks and crevices (hiding places for larvae and pupae). After vacuuming, discard the vacuum bag or spray it with an environmental spray. Wash cushions and blankets with hot water. Using a household spray may be necessary to fully eliminate the infestation.
Did you know that certain tapeworms use fleas as intermediate hosts? This means that a flea infestation often comes with tapeworms. A proper deworming treatment with, for example, Milpro or Drontal ensures your cat and dog stay worm-free.
Note: Frontline must NOT be used on rabbits, as side effects and even death may occur!
