Dronspot
Dronspot for cats is a spot-on deworming treatment that allows you to easily and effectively combat worm infections in cats and kittens. With just one application, Dronspot protects against roundworms, tapeworms, and hookworms. This makes it an ideal choice for cats that are difficult to deworm with tablets. Dronspot is available in three variants, depending on the weight of your cat:
- Dronspot small cat (0.5–2.5 kg)
- Dronspot medium cat (2.5–5 kg)
- Dronspot large cat (5–8 kg)
How does Dronspot work?
Dronspot is administered using a convenient pipette that you simply apply to the skin on the back of your cat’s neck. The active ingredients Emodepside (for roundworms) and Praziquantel (for tapeworms) are absorbed through the skin and effectively combat existing worms. Dronspot has exactly the same effect as Profender and is therefore the over-the-counter alternative. You do not need a prescription from your vet to use Dronspot!
Dronspot can be used from 8 weeks of age and 0.5 kg body weight, and is safe to use during pregnancy and lactation.
Why deworming is important
Worms can cause health problems in cats, such as diarrhea, vomiting, weight loss, and lethargy. Moreover, certain types of worms can also be harmful to humans. A good deworming routine is therefore essential to protect both your cat and your family.
How often should you deworm?
The deworming schedule can vary per animal. Consult your veterinarian if in doubt. A general recommendation is:
- Adult cats: deworm on average 2 to 4 times a year (or based on fecal examination), depending on the living environment and exposure to worms. Animals that eat raw meat or hunt may require more frequent deworming. If you live in or are traveling to an area where heartworm is endemic, more frequent deworming with another product such as Stronghold is recommended. Follow your vet’s advice in the case of a confirmed worm infection.
- Kittens: First deworming at 3 weeks of age, then every 2 weeks until 2 weeks after weaning. Afterwards, monthly until 6 months of age.
