Clomicalm
Clomicalm is used as support in the treatment of separation-related disorders (separation anxiety) in dogs. Separation anxiety can manifest, for example, as destructive behavior, excessive barking, and defecating or urinating indoors when your dog is left alone. Clomicalm should only be used in combination with behavioral therapy.
Efficacy of Clomicalm
Clomicalm contains the active ingredient clomipramine. Clomipramine reduces feelings of anxiety in your dog. The medication regulates the amount of naturally occurring substances in the brain that play a role in anxiety.
Dosage of Clomicalm
Clomicalm is available in 5 mg, 20 mg, and 80 mg tablets. The medication should be administered at a dosage of 1 - 2 mg/kg twice daily according to the table below and as advised by your veterinarian:

Additional measures for separation anxiety
Stress can sometimes be helpful for responding well in certain situations. However, too much and too frequent stress is unhealthy. A dog that experiences regular stress may develop problem behaviors. Your veterinarian may prescribe Clomicalm in combination with behavioral therapy.
Sometimes additional supplements or pheromones are useful, or after a period of intensive behavioral therapy combined with Clomicalm, a supplement may be sufficient to calm your dog.
Zylkene is a supplement based on a milk protein, which can be safely used for both short-term stress and long-term stress. Pheromones such as those in the Adaptil collar or diffuser are scent-based substances that have a calming effect; your dog will feel as if they’re walking on air. Other calming supplements include Phytonics Strezz and Telizen, which contains L-theanine from green tea. The Bach Flower Remedy therapy for humans is also available for pets in the form of Bach Rescue Remedy.
Note: Always consult your veterinarian regarding the concurrent use of supplements or other medications and Clomicalm, as not every combination is safe.
