Drontal Puppy

Drontal Puppy is an easy-to-administer oral suspension containing 5 mg pyrantel and 15 mg febantel per ml. Drontal Puppy is effective against roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. It has been tested in puppies from 2 weeks of age and from a body weight of 600 grams.

Dosage and Administration of Drontal Puppy

It is recommended to deworm puppies at 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks of age, then monthly until 6 months. The dosage of Drontal Puppy is 15 mg febantel and 5 mg pyrantel per kg body weight, equivalent to 1 ml of suspension per kg body weight. The suspension can be given directly into the mouth using the included syringe or mixed with food.

Drontal for Dogs

Drontal for dogs is deworming disguised as a treat: the tablets are bone-shaped and meat-flavored! They can be split in half for accurate dosing. The active ingredients in Drontal for dogs are febantel, pyrantel, and praziquantel. This combination targets common roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms (including Echinococcus).

How often should an adult dog be dewormed?

The recommended deworming frequency for dogs depends on age, environment, and lifestyle. In general, it is advised to deworm dogs from 6 months of age four times a year. If your dog hunts frequently, eats raw meat, or lives in or travels to an area where heartworm or Echinococcus is present, more frequent or different treatment may be needed. Consult your vet for tailored advice.

Drontal for Cats

Drontal for cats contains the active ingredients pyrantel and praziquantel. This combination is effective against the most common roundworms, tapeworms, and hookworms.

Drontal is available in two variants:

  • Drontal Cat 2 or 24 tablets: Dosage is 1 tablet per 4 kg; the tablet can be split in half.
  • Drontal Large Cat 2 or 24 tablets – for cats from 6 kg: Dosage is 1 tablet per 6 kg; the tablet CANNOT be split.

For optimal dosing, a combination of tablets may be required.

Recommended Deworming Schedule for Cats

The recommended frequency depends on the cat’s age, environment, and lifestyle. In general:

  • Kittens should be dewormed from 3 weeks of age, then every 2 weeks until 2 weeks after weaning, then monthly until 6 months of age.
  • Adult cats should be dewormed about 4 times a year. Cats that hunt or eat raw meat may need more frequent deworming, while indoor-only cats may only require 1–2 treatments per year.

Other Medication or Supplements Alongside Drontal

Drontal is sufficient for most common worm infections in puppies, adult dogs, older kittens, and cats. If your dog lives in or travels to an area where heartworm is present, another dewormer may be more appropriate, such as Milbenin, Milpro, or Stronghold. For younger or lighter kittens, Drontal Cat may not be suitable; Milpro for small cats and kittens is a good alternative from 500 g body weight.

Some cats are picky eaters… If your cat won’t accept the tasty Drontal tablets, and you can’t hide them in food or offer them directly, don’t worry. Dronspot is a spot-on product with the same active ingredients, applied between the shoulder blades.

In addition to internal parasites like worms, external parasites such as fleas, ticks, mites, and sandflies are common in cats and dogs. Some tapeworms use fleas as intermediate hosts, so flea and worm infestations often occur together. A good flea treatment such as Adtab or Advantage protects your pet from these itchy pests. Worm infections often show no symptoms. Sometimes they cause diarrhea or other digestive issues such as vomiting. Probiotics like Protexin Pro-Kolin Advanced, Purina Pro Plan FortiFlora for dogs, or FortiFlora for cats help support gut health after deworming. Psyllium fiber products like Iso-Gel help firm up the stool.
